Five years after declaring independence from Serbia and being recognised by 110 U.N. members, Kosovo is still struggling for acceptance in UN by the likes of Russia, China, India, and many other influential countries, some of which are contending with regions of their own. The country is being ignored by the likes of Amazon, eBay, Google, Skype, and Yahoo, which do not recognize Kosovo as independent on their sites and in their dropdown lists.

Crowdsourcing initiative Digital Kosovo helps overcome the virtual barriers which currently exist by engaging citizens online and encouraging a range of Internet properties from shopping websites to travel to add Kosovo to their sites, so that citizens of Kosovo can take advantage of all the Internet has to offer in the same way as all global citizens.
